TRAVEL SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS
Application Requirements
You will need to provide the following documents in your application for a SACNAS travel
scholarship:
Statement of Purpose
Provide a brief (500-word limit) statement of purpose addressing the topics listed
below.
✓ Describe your research interests and the importance of research to you.
✓ Describe your academic and career goals, and how attending NDiSTEM can help
you achieve them.
✓ Describe why you would benefit from receiving a travel scholarship to attend
SACNAS NDiSTEM.
Tip: Address all topics with personal examples.
Letter of Recommendation
Provide your recommender’s contact information in your application. Your
recommender will be sent an email with instructions and a link to upload the letter.
You will need only one letter of recommendation.
The letter should address the following topics and must have your recommender’s
signature:
✓ Describe your relationship to the applicant. How long have you known the
applicant and what is the extent of your interactions?
✓ Comment on the applicant’s academic and scientific merit, including their
aptitude for pursuing an advanced degree in STEM or a related field.
✓ Describe reasons why the applicant deserves a Travel Scholarship to attend
NDiSTEM.

Unofficial Transcript
Upload an unofficial transcript to your Travel Scholarship application as a PDF file. If
you are transferring in the Fall, please provide your current, unofficial transcript and
an acceptance letter from your new institution as one PDF file.
Your transcript must include:
✓ Your full name.
✓ Your institution name.
✓ Relevant coursework and major.
Tip: Verify that your file is easy to read and opens properly.
Please note: No emailed or late submissions will be accepted. We strongly recommend you
give yourself ample time to complete your application and to avoid any issues. You are
responsible for ensuring your application is complete and accurate, including following up
with your recommender on their letter before the deadline.
What is included in a SACNAS Travel Scholarship
A SACNAS scholarship includes:
✓ Roundtrip airfare
✓ Shared lodging (you will be paired with a roommate)
✓ Registration for the SACNAS NDiSTEM Conference
IMPORTANT: The SACNAS Travel Scholarship does not cover ground transportation.

Selection Process
Each application is assigned to SACNAS volunteer reviewers. SACNAS will analyze reviewer
scores and comments, eligibility criteria and the priority criteria below to allocate awards.

: Students who are attending and presenting for the first time at a SACNAS
NDiSTEM conference.
✓ 2
nd
: Students who are attending a SACNAS NDiSTEM conference for the first time but
are not presenting.
✓ 3rd: Students who are returning to a SACNAS NDiSTEM conference and are
presenting for the first time at a SACNAS NDiSTEM conference.
✓ 4
th
: All other eligible students.
